Window seals, also known as window gaskets or gasket seals, are tools that are fitted to windows that help prevent water and draughts from entering the home or other indoor locations. Window seals are also great in sealing gaps where air has constantly leaked into or where water is building around. In this case, a window seal replacement is required and can be easily installed to prevent any future damage.

Advantages of window gaskets

There are many benefits to adding a window gasket to home, building, or car windows. For homes that are situated in busy city centers, near railroad tracks, or next to a large road, installing window seals will help prevent any extra noise from entering. Moreover, a well-placed window gap seal will also not generate any noise caused by wind and air entering in from leaks or gaps. Window seals are also great tools to use during hot or cold weather. When using air conditioners on warm days or the heater during the winter, a window frame sealant will help prevent cold air or heat from escaping buildings, homes, or cars. Consequently, this helps lower electricity and heating bills in the long term.

Types of window gaskets

There are several types of window seals that offer different benefits. Most options fall into three main categories: wedge gaskets, bubble gaskets, and E gaskets. Wedge gaskets are perhaps the most common of the three for a suitable window seal replacement. They push into the gaps around windows, weather-proofing them and remaining securely in place. Bubble gaskets are also another popular option. Bubble gaskets deliver the same protective advantages as any window gap seal but with better aging features. These window seals have a curve shape and are installed in between the frame and the opening of the window. E gaskets, which are most commonly used for UPVC window types, for a tight seal between the window frame and glass.

Window seal longevity

If properly installed, most window seals can last for more than 10 years without needing a replacement. To prevent sealant failure, window gaskets should be checked every 3-5 years. Unfortunately, window seals cannot be repaired if they become brittle or have lost their shape. If this occurs, the only option is to replace them. It is often easy to tell if a window gasket has lost its seal by feeling for draughts or determining if there is any air or water entering through the window.
