About products and suppliers

A skid steer loader is a small but versatile piece of heavy equipment with hydraulic arms for lifting and a number of attachments. Loader models include wheeled and tracked versions, but a skid steer loader refers to wheeled models. Tracked models are known as compact track loaders or multi-terrain loaders. A skid loader can be used to perform tasks such as scooping and dumping small amounts of dirt or rocks, removing snow from sidewalks, moving hay bales and sweeping a parking lot clean.

How Did the Skid Steer Get Its Name?

The wheels of a skid steer loader and mini skid steers are in a fixed line on either side of the machine. When the left and right sets of wheels are turned at different speeds, the machine turns by skidding. This skidding of skid steer loader wheels leaves skid steer tracks along the ground.

Can You Make Money with Your Skid Steer?

If you own or drive a skid steer loader, you will be encouraged to learn that you can make thousands of dollars a year as a skid steer driver. The average salary for a skid steer loader operator ranges from $38,000 to $48,500. Operating a skid steer can be a profitable part-time or full-time job.

How Much Does a Skid Steer Loader Cost?

Skid steers for sale are around $55,000, with brand, model, size and attachments influencing the cost. Mini skid steers vary in price, running from about $14,000 to $40,000. A used skid steer for sale may be half the price of a new skid steer or less. If you will need a skid steer loader for a limited amount of time, you may consider the cost to rent a skid steer. You can rent a skid steer for about $200 to $500 a day.
