What is an LED light diffuser sheet?

An LED light diffuser sheet is a sheet of material that softens the light coming from a LED light. It is placed between the LED light source and the subject. Its purpose is to diffuse and distribute light evenly throughout the sheet. The typical thickness of any light diffuser sheet is between 0.5mm to 1.5mm.

What are LED diffuser sheets good for?

Diffuser sheets are significantly useful for backlighting, task lighting, and other applications that require uniform and even light distribution, such as retail displays, shops, or museums. They can soften harsh light sources, reduce brightness levels, and reduce glare. Diffuser sheets are ideal for highlighting specific areas or improving the ambiance of a space, such as a fireplace, a featured wall, a living room, or a bedroom to create a cozy atmosphere.

Public places such as hospitals, emergency rooms, clinics, and large office spaces, often use light diffuser sheets to reduce harsh artificial lights, reducing eye strain and creating a more pleasant environment.

Acrylic versus plastic diffuser sheets: What's the difference?

Light-diffusing acrylic sheets are made out of clear acrylic including a light-diffusing agent. Diffuser plastic sheets have affordable prices and are often used in spaces that don’t require a great level of uniform brightness. Plastic types are commonly seen in residential lighting, such as in closets, kitchens, and bathrooms.

One major difference between the two is that an acrylic diffuser sheet has a higher light transmittance, better diffusion properties, better scratch resistance, and higher durability. They have a higher level of heat resistance and their pricing range is generally more affordable.

For buyers who also look for adding unique designs to their home or workspace, light-diffusing acrylic sheets will work better. They are more flexible with printed designs, allowing users to create stunning visuals for commercial and residential spaces.

What about fluorescent diffuser sheets?

A fluorescent light diffuser sheet is made of white material with high transmittance. It can be used to change the hue or tone of a light source, creating warmer, ambient, or cooler lights. It is more energy efficient and cost-effective and is often used in large office buildings. It has a shorter lifespan compared to the other diffuser sheets.

What about polycarbonate diffuser sheets?

A polycarbonate light diffuser sheet can be made of polycarbonate or glass with a thickness range of 0.5mm and 6mm. It has a much higher impact resistance compared to acrylic diffuser sheets. Because polycarbonate diffusing sheets are less rigid, they are generally much stronger and less flammable.
