About products and suppliers

Fire blankets are most commonly used in food preparation facilities to combat Class B (flammable liquid), Class F (cooking fats and oils), and Class A (carbonaceous) fires. A fire blanket for the kitchen is essentially a highly flame-resistant textile that can be used to extinguish a little fire or to wrap around an individual who has caught fire. A fire blanket roll is made of two layers of intricately woven glass fiber fabric and an inner layer that’s made of fire-retardant film. Fire blanket material works very effectively by cutting off the supply of oxygen (which the fire needs to burn) and smothering the fire.

What are the materials used in fire blankets?

Wool has a high nitrogen and water content by nature. This trait makes the woolen fire blanket material highly flame-resistant. Wool fire blankets do not melt, drip, or stick to the skin as it burns to make them an excellent fiber for fire protection. Fireproof blankets made of fiberglass act as a shield against fires, protecting you from not just the flames but also the heat. Fiberglass fire blankets are used in houses, offices, manufacturing plants, welding shops, etc. These blankets protect users from a higher intensity of heat than wool. Fiberglass fireproof blankets can be used against flames of over 260°C. They can also withstand a molten metal splash of up to 1200°C, which is way higher than most houses, offices, or even industrial fires.

How do fire blankets work and how to use them?

The fire blanket is used to smother the flames, starve them of oxygen and extinguish the fire before it gets out of control. A simple grab and pull of the handles will allow the emergency fire blanket to fall from the wall container and cover an operator’s hands, protecting them from burns. They can be safely deployed in the event of an emergency without any special training – although a potential user should familiarize themselves with the instructions on the container beforehand. By placing a firefighter blanket on the ground and wrapping them in the blanket, oxygen is excluded, and the flames are diminished. Using a fire blanket on a person whose clothing has caught fire can also be used to put out tiny liquid and solid fires.
